Head Boys Basketball coach
Coach Bowen is entering his third season as the Varsity Boys Basketball coach at Lely High School. He is an ESE Inclusion teacher at Lely. Prior to Lely high, Coach Bowen taught ESE and Coached JV Basketball at Golden Gate for 3 years where he had a record of 40-17 highlighted with an 18-1 record in 2008. In 2006 Coach Bowen was a Volunteer Assistant at the Community School of Naples. In 2005 Coach Bowen was the JV Boys Basketball coach at Spencer – Van Etten High School in Spencer, NY. There Coach Bowen won the IAC Division II championship with a 17-2 record. In 2004 Coach Bowen was an assistant coach at Canandaigua Academy in New York. Coach Bowen was a four year starter in High School at Spencer – Van Etten High School where he played two years for the former Community School of Naples coach Bill Carufe. Coach Bowen finished his career as the school’s career leader in points.
Coach Bowen is also involved in the Florida AAU scene. He is the Director of SWFL Select. Coach Bowen guided the 16u team to the finals of the Disney Easter Classic and the Hoop Mountain Memorial Day Shootout. He has also coached for the Golden Boys; Naples Finest; Naples Flame and Elmira Express; where he coached players like Jeff Foote - Cornell (2009 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year) currently playing professionally for Maccabi Tel Aviv's.
Coach Bowen went to The State University of New York at Cortland where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education degree in 2004; where he also earned 2 varsity letters as member of the Baseball team. Coach Bowen is married to his beautiful wife, Marianne; they are expecting their first child in December. They live in Estero and have two dogs Duke and Mimi.
Desire Gabou
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Gabou is entering his second year as an Assistant Coach at Lely High School. Prior to joining Lely, he was the volunteer assistant at Bradenton Christian High School during the 2009-2010 season. In the summer of 2010 Coach Gabou participated with the Ivory Coast National Team in France, Belgium and Switzerland in preparation for the World Championship in Turkey. He has been a summer camp counselor at Florida Gulf Coast University and Western Kentucky University.
Coach Gabou graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Western Kentucky University. While at WKU, he was a member of the Men’s team that won the Sun Belt tournament before losing in the Sweet 16 against UCLA during March Madness. Gabou has also been a member of Slam Nation: an international basketball entertainment group with headquarters in Paris, France. He is married to his wife Jennifer Gabou and resides in Naples
John Siers
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Siers is entering his first season as a varsity assistant coach. He joins the Lely Staff with a wealth of experience, having been a College or High School Basketball Coach for the past 25 years. Siers is better known as Coach “Sarge” in the basketball world, a moniker earned while working over 250 sessions of basketball camp. He is currently the National Director of “Sarge’s Basic Training”, a basketball and life skills program that is run all over the United States. Since 1996, Siers has helped guide 15 players to the NCAA Division 1 level, and many more to NCAA levels Division II and III .
Coach “Sarge” also works as a Senior Staff member for the HoopGroup. The HoopGroup is the Premier basketball camp in the country.
Coach Siers has been married to Sherrie Siers for 16 years, and they have a 10 year old son named Cooper. His wife teaches Languages Arts and World Languages at Manatee Middle, and Cooper is currently in the 5th grade at Manatee Elementary School. Mr. Siers is excited to be joining the ELL and English Departments at Lely HS.
Fritz Jacques
Head Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Jacques is in his second year as the Junior Varsity head coach. Coach graduated from Lely High School in 2004 where he was a 3-time varsity letter winner in both basketball and football. He earned a full scholarship to play football at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio where he played Defensive Back. During his freshman year he won the award for Rookie Defensive Player of the year. Coach Jacques majored in Recreation, and is now working toward completing the requirements to work with students in Exceptional Student Education. Coach Jacques was the Freshmen head coach at Palmetto Ridge High School in 2009-2010.
Rolf Bathold
Junior Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Bathold is in his First year as the Junior Varsity Assistant coach. Coach graduated from Lely High School in 2007 where he was a 3-time varsity letter winner in both basketball and football. He also was awarded best defense of player in basketball and team MVP in football. He earned a full scholarship to play football at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pa. Coach Bathold was a three year starter and during his junior and senior year he won second team All-Conference. Coach Bathold majored in Business Management.
Roger Kindinger
Head Freshmen Coach
Coach Kindinger is a Graduate of Tri-State University in Indiana where he played Basketball and majored in Biology. He has been in the teaching profession for 28 years and was the Lely Varsity coach for 2 years, before moving into the communication field. Coach Kindinger is a Biology teacher at Lely. He is also a devoted golfer. He is married with three sons.
Tim Tudor
Varsity/Freshmen Assistant Coach
Coach Tudor is in his second year as a floating assistant working primaraly witht the Freshmen team and Varsity teams. Coach Tudor is a Lely graduate where he was a Football and Basketball player. He is a graduate of University of Kentucky in 2009.
